Why You Need a Checklist when Planning a Party

Why You Need a Checklist when Planning a Party

It can take a lot of work to throw a party, trust me, I know!! But it doesn't have to be overwhelming.  With a little planning and organization, you don't have to break a sweat to put on a fun and memorable fete! Using a party planning checklist is one of the best ways to make sure you don't forget anything.

A party prep checklist is really just a list of everything you need to do to get ready for your party. It can include everything from picking a date and time to sending out emails and a plan for cleaning before the event. A checklist will help you stay prepared and make sure you don't forget anything important.

There are several approaches to making your.checklist of things to do when planning a gathering.  Great news! We offer a free party planning checklist for you to use.  If that's not your style, feel free to use it as a starting point.  After all, we all have our unique ways of doing things! You can use a simple worksheet, a notebook, or an app like Todoist or Any.do. Find a method that works for you and stick to it.

Once you have your list, break down each job into smaller, easier-to-handle steps. This will make it seem less scary and help you keep going in the right direction. You can also put different types of jobs, like food, decorations, and entertainment, in different colors on your list.   Our free download also has a space for notes.   This is a great place to use different color-coding strategies, as well as keep ideas and adjustments for next time.

When you plan your party, make sure you allocate enough time for each task.  We recommend your list starting approximately 1 month before the party, but we also know that won't be plausible for every event.  Some things come together more quickly. Everything doesn't always go as planned, so it's generally better to have a little extra time than rather than not  enough.  For example, if you know your kids or significant other enjoy keeping the house a mess, section this job into smaller tasks so you're not trying to scramble the day before!  Try to spread out tasks throughout the week that they won't "undo", such as dusting.  Save things like vacuuming and cleaning the guest bathroom for the day before or the morning of the event.

Of course, don't forget to have fun! Planning a party should be enjoyable, so don't stress out about it too much. If you have a plan and just enjoy the process, your friends will too.
